About This Feature
The Test Member feature allows Admins to experience the Community precisely as Members would. Preview Member onboarding, Learning Products, Events, and Community interactions to view the holistic Member experience. Test Members can also be used to troubleshoot issues and test Automations.
How It Works
Test Members are Member accounts linked to one Admin profile or email address. Admins can toggle between their Admin profile and Test Member profile without needing to log in/out or create an entirely new Member Account. Test Members function just like regular Member accounts.
As a Test Member, the Admin can register for a Product, RSVP to an event, and participate in discussions. Email notifications to the Test Member are sent to the Admin’s email so they can preview emails sent as part of the end-to-end Member experience. Test Members appear in the Member directory and reports; they will also trigger Automations.
How To Create Test Members
- When logged in as an Admin, click Account Profile via the avatar in the bottom left corner and select > Test Members.
- Select > Create Test Member
- Assign a name, Group and/or add to a Product
- Select > Create Test Member
- The Test Member is now active and can be selected from the Admin Account Profile
How to Use and Manage Test Members
- Click Account Profile > Test Members > Test Member
- The Test Member profile will open in a new tab. Note: Test Members must go through the onboarding flow the first time they are used
- Admins can have multiple Test Member profiles open in different tabs/windows at one time.
- When using a Test Member, Disco behaves as it does for a “real” member. This means Test Members can:
-
- Register for Products
- Submit a Quiz or Assignment
- RSVP to and attend Events
- Participate in Discussions or DM.
- Trigger Automations
- Be a Product Manager or Instructor role within a Product
How to Remove a Test Member
- Click Account Profile > Test Members
- Hover over the Test Member to be removed, click the three-dot ellipsis
- Select delete
Important Considerations
- Only Admins can create Test Members. Instructors and Product Managers cannot create Test Members and should use “Preview as Member” to preview a Product.
- Test Members appear in reports like any other Member. You must remove the Test Membe if you do not want Test Members to appear in reports (or elsewhere).
- When an admin is removed from the community, Test Members created by the Admin are also removed.
- Test Members appear in global search results just like any other Members.
- Test Members cannot see Products in draft or Events not yet published.
- To preview a Product still in draft as a Member, use the ‘Preview as Member’ feature within the Product.
FAQs
Q: Can Product Managers and Instructors create Test Members?
A: No; only Admins can create Test Members. Product Managers and Instructors can view the Member experience using the ‘Preview as Member’ feature within a Product.
Q: Can I log in directly to a Test Member account?
A: No. Admins must log in to their Admin account as usual, and once logged in, they can toggle to a Test Member from within their Account Profile.
Q: Can I “reset” a Test Member to retest the member onboarding/start again?
A: No. To retest member onboarding, create a new Test Member.
Q: Do Test Members receive email notifications?
A: Yes, all notifications are sent to the Admin’s email.
Q: How do Test Members impact reporting?
A: Test Members behave like regular Members and will appear in all reports.
Q: Does a Test Member have an email?
A: Yes, it's a randomly generated email with letters and numbers. Emails sent to the Test Member will go directly to the Admin so they can see what members receive.
Q: Can I create Test Members if I have SSO enabled?
A: Yes! As the Test Member does not technically exist in the SSO auth server, the Admin experience is seamless and essentially the same as if you were not using SSO.
Q: How does ‘Test Members’ differ from “Preview as Member”?
Feature | Purpose |
Test Members | Replicates the entire member experience. |
Preview as Member | Product-specific view. Useful for viewing the member experience while in draft. |
Learn Mode | Allows Admins to register and complete a Product while logged in as an Admin. The Admin is included in Product completion reports and can achieve a Certificate. |
