Learner Experience Updates Coming May 5, 2026

A better learning experience is on the way May 5, 2026!

Disco's content experience has been reimagined. The content experience is now full-screen, media-first, and built for the way people actually learn. The new experience removes friction, reduces cognitive load, and puts learners in a focused, immersive environment where the content takes center stage.

Below we outline everything you need to know: what changed, why it matters, how to talk about it with your members, and what to watch for during rollout.

Why This Matters

The previous content experience was functional but dated. Competing elements created cognitive load, media was limited to a small container and inconsistent, and the modal layout felt claustrophobic. The result: learners were distracted, operators had to work around the product, and the experience didn't match what Disco stands for - a modern learning experience.

The new experience is a meaningful step toward our 2026 north star: a beautifully designed, human-first platform for transformation.

Cleaner admin UI. Less hunting for settings. Faster content creation.Full-screen focus. Immersive media. Clear calls to action at every step.

What's Changing

1. Content moves from modal to full-screen

Content no longer opens in a floating modal. It now lives on a full-screen page, giving learners a dedicated, distraction-free space to engage.

Before

  • Content opens in a modal with the module list auto-expanded on the side
  • Footer always visible, eating into vertical space
  • Icons scattered across the header and page body
  • Admin actions spread across 3-dot menus and horizontal tabs

After

  • Content is full-screen, module list collapsed by default
  • Footer appears and disappears as you scroll
  • All icons consolidated in the header: Ask AI, Comments, Modules, Bookmark
  • Admin actions live inside a single "Admin" button

2. Simplified content creation: one "Lesson" type

Text, Video, and Audio content types are now unified under a single "Lesson" type. Operators no longer have to decide upfront: just add a Lesson, then choose your media.

Before

  • "Add Content" modal asks operators to choose between Text, Video, or Audio
  • "Tasks" bucket contains Assignment, Quiz, and Survey

After

  • "Add Content" modal shows a single "Lesson" option. Media type chosen inside.
  • "Content" bucket now contains Lesson, Assignment, Quiz, and Survey

3. Featured media section

Every piece of content now has a dedicated Featured Media section at the top. Operators can upload images, video, or audio, or embed external content like YouTube, Loom, Google Slides, and more.

Before

  • No dedicated featured media space at the top of content
  • Embeds only accessible via "/" command inline in the editor
  • Fixed pixel dimensions for embeds caused inconsistent sizing across screen sizes
  • Confusing dual cover: you could add a cover video and a cover image on top of it

After

  • New Featured Media section anchors all media before body text begins
  • Embeds can now be featured at the top of any lesson
  • Responsive aspect-ratio sizing: no more pre-processing media to specific dimensions
  • One media slot: video with thumbnail. No more cover confusion

Embedding: The new "Add Embed Link" modal supports all existing integrations, plus Custom HTML and generic iFrame for power users. Embeds can be featured at the top of a lesson, not just inline in the body.

4. Quiz and survey updates

Quizzes and surveys now have a featured section at the top, plus an optional overview/introduction field. The learner experience is more focused, with quiz questions appearing inline rather than in a separate modal.

Before

  • "Start Quiz" button buried below the fold
  • Learners complete quizzes in a modal
  • No space for intro or context above questions

After

  • "Start Quiz" is front and center in the featured section
  • Questions appear inline within the featured area
  • Admins can now add a short overview (max 300 characters) above the quiz

Important: Existing quiz and survey cover images and videos will still display, but below the new featured section. Operators can no longer add new cover images to quizzes or surveys. Use the Featured Media section or embed images in the editor body instead.

5. Assignment updates

Assignments have a cleaner featured section and clearer calls to action for learners. Setup settings move from the sidebar to a modal, keeping the pattern consistent with quizzes.

Before

  • Assignment setup done in the sidebar
  • No clear CTA for learners on what to do next

After

  • Assignment setup in a modal, aligned with the quiz and survey pattern
  • Clear CTAs: "Submit Assignment" scrolls to the submission box, "View Instructions" scrolls to body text

Important: Same as quizzes, existing assignment cover images display below the featured section. New cover images can no longer be added to assignments.

6. Additional UX improvements

  • Cleaner media picker: Templates, Unsplash, and AI Generate consolidated under a single "Images" tab
  • Comment counts now visible on the comments icon in the top bar
  • Content label setting moved from the top header into the Settings sidebar
  • Attached content and event cards now span full width to align with body text
  • Audio thumbnail ratio updated to 1:1 for consistency
  • Time estimate is now on by default for new content

Common Questions

Q: What happens to my existing cover images and videos?

A: For lessons, nothing changes. The featured media section becomes the cover, behavior is unchanged. For quizzes, surveys, and assignments, existing cover images will still display, just below the new featured section. Operators can remove them for a cleaner look, but cannot re-add them to those content types.

Q: Where did Text, Video, and Audio content types go?

A: They've been unified into a single "Lesson" type. When you create a lesson, you choose your media format inside the lesson using the Featured Media section. The actual capability is the same. Getting there is just simpler.

Q: Can Admins still embed Vimeo, Miro, or Google Slides?

A: Yes. The new "Add Embed Link" modal supports all existing integrations, plus Custom HTML and generic iFrame for power users. Embeds can now be featured at the top of a lesson, not just inline in the body.

Q: Is SCORM upload available to all customers?

A: SCORM packages can be uploaded directly into the Featured Media section. Only ZIP files are supported. Confirm availability with your CS contact or check Labs settings.

Q: Will this affect learner progress or completion data?

A: No. This is a UI and layout change only. All existing completions, progress tracking, and learner history are unaffected.
