About This Feature
The Quiz Pass/Fail feature allows Admins to set a minimum passing percentage for quizzes within a course. This feature is useful for ensuring learners demonstrate understanding of the material before continuing and provides a structured way to evaluate learner progress. It reinforces mastery of key concepts and enhances overall learning outcomes.
How It Works
The Quiz Pass/Fail feature works by enabling a threshold that learners must meet in order to “pass” and complete the quiz. When enabled with pre-requisites, the learner must pass the quiz by achieving the set passing percentage to unlock the next module or lesson. Failure to pass requires the learner to retake the quiz.
How To Steps
- Navigate to the course where the quiz is located.
- Select the quiz you would like to configure.
- Click on the "Settings" tab in the quiz editor.
- Toggle the Enable Pass/Fail option ON.
- Set the passing percentage in the designated field (e.g., 80%).
- The quiz is now set to pass/fail mode, and learners must achieve the specified percentage to continue with the course.
Important Considerations
- If a learner fails the quiz and pre-requisites have been enabled, they can only progress once they retake and pass it.
- A learner can retake the quiz however many times they need. There is no ability to set a maximum number of attempts.
- Reporting results will show the aggregate of all attempted submissions (not just the passed results).
FAQs
Q: Can learners retake the quiz if they fail to pass the first time?
A: Yes, learners can retake the quiz as many times as they need to pass.
Q: Can the passing percentage be changed after learners have taken the quiz?
A: Yes, but changing the passing percentage after a quiz has been taken may affect previously recorded results. If the passing percentage is updated, previous statuses will NOT change:
- If a learner has passed but the quiz pass percentage gets updated to higher than their score, they will still have a “pass” status and have completed the quiz.
- If a learner has failed but the quiz pass percentage gets updated to lower than their score, they will still have a “failed” status and have not completed the quiz.
