About This Feature

Creating learning products at scale can take a lot of time and resources. Disco allows you to simply clone a product, effectively duplicating all its settings, apps and content. Product cloning allows you to rapidly build new products from existing ones, which is valuable for creating new cohorts of a cohort-based course.

How It Works

From anywhere on a product, you can select the overflow icon and hit clone. This allows you to select what apps from the product you want to bring over and then configure dates for events and content releases.

How To Clone a Product

  1. Navigate to the Product you want to clone.
  2. Click on the "overflow" icon.
  3. Select Clone.
  4. Choose what you want to clone
  5. Adjust dates for content and events
  6. Select Clone
  7. Keep working while cloning is in progress.

Important Considerations

  • When a Product is set to 'Public' or 'Members Only' and the 'auto-add' setting is enabled, existing Members will be automatically added to the cloned Product. However, the Members will only have visibility to the Product after it is published.
  • Members from the originating Product will not have access to the cloned Product unless they join it first, either through a Membership that the cloned Product is made available to or by registering directly.

FAQs

Q: What happens when I update a cloned version of a Product?
A: When updating content in a cloned Product, there are two options when saving:

  1. Update All Instances: Choose this option when you want the update to propagate across all instances of the content.
  2. Duplicate Content:  Disco creates a copy of the content, and the changes are only applied to the content you are working on. No changes are propagated across other instances of the content.

Q: Can a Product Manager or Instructor make changes to products they do not have access to?

A: Yes. If a Product Manager or Instructor selects 'Update All Instances' when making changes to the content in a cloned Learning Product, the changes will be applied to all instances of the content. This includes content in Products that they may not have access to. We recommend creating a new Product and using the Add Content > From Existing Content feature if you do not want a Product Manager or Instructor to be able to update all versions of content.
