About This Feature
The threaded Channel system enables targeted communication within the community. This facilitates relevant and engaging interactions, drives focused conversations, shares important updates, and collects feedback. The threaded nature of these channels enhances community engagement and collaboration by organizing conversations for easy participation and follow-up.
How It Works
The threaded Channel system works as follows:
- Channels can be created at the community level or the product level.
- Discussions can be open to all members or confined to specific groups.
- A Threads page that surfaces thread replies for viewing and responding to ongoing conversations.
How To Create a Community-Wide Channel
- From the Community Home page, select the plus icon “+” next to the community name. Select “Add App”.
- From the add app modal, select “Channel”.
- Give the channel a name and description and select who will have access to it. Channel access cannot be changed after the channel is created.
- (Optional) Enable Disco AI Co-pilot to receive answer suggestions to questions asked on the channel.
- Click “Save Changes”.
How To Create a Product Channel
- Navigate to the Product page, select the plus icon “+” next to the product name.
- Click “Save Changes”
How To Notify a Channel
Use an at-channel mention to notify everyone in a channel by typing @channel in the chat input.
- As you're writing a message, enter the @ symbol.
- Enter “channel”, or select from the list of options.
- Send your message.
Important Considerations
- Admins can control who can use the at-channel mention within Admin > Settings. Choose between allowing everyone in a channel or just Admins/Owners to use the at-channel mention. This setting applies to all channels across the community.
- @channel mentions can only be used in channels with 1000 or fewer members.
- We recommend using these mentions sparingly, especially in large channels. If you need to get the attention of someone specific, you can mention that person directly by entering @ and entering the member’s name.
